American Council General discusses with Health Minister TS Singhdev : Information about the status of Covid-19 and economy in Chhattisgarh…..Singhdev explained the situation and strategy of the Chhattisgarh

The Consul General of the US Consulate General in Mumbai, David J. Ronge, today discussed with Panchayat and Rural Development and Health Minister TS Singhdev the status of Covid-19 in the state and the measures being taken to control it. Mr. Robert Paulson Hauser, an officer of the Political-Economic Department of the American Embassy, also discussed with Mr. Singhdev about the steps being taken by the government to speed up the economy of the state.

Health Minister Mr. Singhdev told the American Consul General that preparations were started to deal with the corona virus infection in Chhattisgarh from January itself. Right now, RT-PCR investigation of corona virus is being done in four labs in the state. Initially it was only facility at AIIMS. Pool testing is also being done to check more and more people. The state government is ensuring better surveillance by purchasing 75 thousand RD kits. He informed that after the return of large number of migrant laborers, the state will face more challenges. We are working unitedly by coordinating with all the departments to overcome Kovid-19 in this difficult time by gathering maximum resources, vigilance and caution.

Mr. Singhdev informed that for the treatment of Kovid-19 infected, about eight thousand beds are being prepared by mobilizing necessary resources in many medical institutions of the state. He said that 36 patients infected with the corona virus have recovered after treatment. Resources are being mobilized for the state by constantly discussing and coordinating with the Government of India. The state and central governments are helping each other to control Kovid-19.

When asked about the work being done by Ronge to accelerate the economy in the lock-down period, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Mr. Singhdev said that along with MNREGA, livelihood enhancement is being done on priority basis by National Rural Livelihood Mission. . This has created millions of employment opportunities. People’s purchasing power in villages has increased. To strengthen the rural economy, the state government is running ambitious schemes like Narva, Garwa, Ghurwa, Bari. This is helping better organic resources for agriculture and increasing employment opportunities in villages.

Mr. Singhdev told American Consulate officials that an important plan to make ethanol from rice is in the works after the state government uses paddy purchased as a food grain at a support price. After taking its tangible form, better utilization of the entire paddy procured by the government will be ensured. Mr. Singhdev said in conversation that the state government would welcome any kind of cooperation by the US.
